April Owlcrate Review

Owlcrate is a monthly box subscription that is based around the box's theme of the month. The themes usually focus on a Young Adult series and have items that go with that series. For example, in  July 2016 Owlcrate had a theme of Good vs Evil box; if you got an evil box you were given a Draco Malfoy POP figure by Funko or if you got the Good box you were given a Luna Lovegood POP figure by Funko. A typical Owlcrate box includes a box based on the month's theme along with 3-5 book/nerdy/fun items that tie in with the book in the Owlcrate and theme.

The cost of an Owlcrate is $29.99 a month plus shipping and the box usually ships around the 20th of each month. Another great part of the Owlcrate is that you can buy it as a gift for someone! It's a perfect birthday, Christmas or anniversary gift for any book lover!

The theme for April's Owlcrate is Head Over Heels!
I absolutely love Head Over Heels card for this month's Owlcrate! It's gorgeous and I honestly plan on framing it. I also love how they included drawings of past books they've used in previous Owlcrates! Clever and cute!

The first item in the April Owlcrate is a key chain created by Bookworm Boutique featuring a quote from Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda.

Owlcrate exclusive mini book.

A candle from Novelly Yours inspired from Rainbow Rowell's novels.
Tea from The Tea Spot inspired by Anna and the French Kiss.

A gorgeous printed created by Evie Bookish featuring a quote from A Court of Thorns and Roses.

My favorite item from April's Owlcrate is a gorgeous headband from Storiarts featuring Pride and Prejudice which is one of my favorite books EVER.

The book of the Head Over Heels Owlcrate is The Upside of Unrequited by Becky ALbertalli.

Overall thoughts: Sigh. I love Owlcrate, I do; I love looking forward to getting Owlcrate goodness every month HOWEVER, I've been a subscriber for almost a year now and I feel as if Owlcrate is recycling the same items every few months. I also don't think there is enough variety, I know I probably the only woman on Earth who doesn't drink coffee or tea but I feel like there's something tea related in almost every box. Same goes for the candles! I love the idea of candles however I am allergic to almost every dang candle in the world! There has to be something that mix things up, I love Owlcrate, I think it's a fantastic subscription box but something needs to change.

And the theme of May's Owlcrate is.....

Blog Tour & Review: Chasing Wicked by Kathryn L. James April 30

Displaying Chasing Wicked Final Front Cover.png

The Cover: The Chasing Wicked cover is hot, hot, hot! I love how it's in black and white and it's just gorgeous honestly. The red color of the font is fabulous too, it really jumps out at you. A+

Basics:

Description: Stone Mitchell was and always will be toxic.
Forbidden.
Poison.
I’d had a taste and it nearly killed me. Now, I knew better than to bite the apple.
He’d betrayed me in the worst imaginable way possible.
Six years later, I found myself riding out a dangerous storm with the cheating bastard.
Truths are uncovered. Deception unfolds. Passion ignites and chemistry explodes.
Adding to the drama? I hold a secret that’s unforgivable. I’m the one that ruined our second chance.
Yet, it’s Stone that comes for me with a vengeance.
He’s wicked. He’s wicked ruthless. Pure wicked sin.
…and I want another taste.

Overall thoughts: I really enjoyed Chasing Wicked and the story it told; I'm really a lot romance books that focus on more than two people, it's about family which I think is a nice change from the usual romance stories I've read in the past. There's more at stake than two people being in love or having their hands all over each other, especially when family or children involved. It ups the ante and adds a different vibe to the story which is one of the reasons I really liked Chasing Wicked. James is a fabulous writer and has a way with words that kept me hooked and honestly, her writing is so wonderfully written that I wish Chasing Wicked was longer! That was my only complaint about this book, I wish it was longer! Avery and Stone have a great couple chemistry and their love and attraction for one another made me melt in my chair. I am really looking forward to the rest of this series!

Monthly Series Mention: The Dark Swan Series by Richelle Mead

For April's Monthly Series Mention I am showcasing one of my favorite romance, fantasy series,
The Dark Swan Series by Richelle Mead. I am a huge van of hers, Vampire Academy was one of the first Young Adult series I ever read and is a forever favorite of mine. Mead perfectly marries both the fantasy and romance genre perfectly in this series and I am so excited to share it with you!

The Cover: If you follow Amorette's Reviews closely you know I love covers that match with the characters in the book and the story and the Dark Swan Series does not disappoint! They feature badass redheaded heroine Eugenie kicking butt on every book of this series and I love it. A+

Basics: The Dark Swan Series is a completely set of four books and each book is over 300+ pages long. Storm Born, the first book in the series was released in 2008 and the series finished in 2011.

Description: Just typical. No love life to speak of for months, then all at once, every horny creature in the Otherworld wants to get in your pants. . .

Eugenie Markham is a powerful shaman who does a brisk trade banishing spirits and fey who cross into the mortal world. Mercenary, yes, but a girl's got to eat. Her most recent case, however, is enough to ruin her appetite. Hired to find a teenager who has been taken to the Otherworld, Eugenie comes face to face with a startling prophecy--one that uncovers dark secrets about her past and claims that Eugenie's first-born will threaten the future of the world as she knows it.
Now Eugenie is a hot target for every ambitious demon and Otherworldy ne'er-do-well, and the ones who don't want to knock her up want her dead. Eugenie handles a Glock as smoothly as she wields a wand, but she needs some formidable allies for a job like this. She finds them in Dorian, a seductive fairy king with a taste for bondage, and Kiyo, a gorgeous shape-shifter who redefines animal attraction. But with enemies growing bolder and time running out, Eugenie realizes that the greatest danger is yet to come, and it lies in the dark powers that are stirring to life within her. . .

Overall thoughts: I love this series! Usually for a book you wouldn't think fantasy and romance would work well together because they are two very different genres but Richelle Mead puts them together beautifully with her wonderful characters and exciting, mysterious plot in the Dark Swan Series. From beginning to end I was hooked and even though the series ended six years ago, I still want more! Eugenie is a fabulous herione with enough sassiness to make anyone snap their fingers and as a reader you will marvel at her strength to overcome all the difficulties she faces in the books. There is a love triangle in this series which I know might turn some of you away but I love angst, oh my goodness! Give me all the angst! The romance is steamy and will honestly make you fall for both men in different ways. My favorite part of the Dark Swan Series is the plot honestly, the twists and turns will have you questioning things for days and drawing up theories like a crazy person. But in a good way! I highly recommend this series for anyone loves romance and fantasy! You will fall in love!

Couple Chemistry Rating: 5/5 Shells

Favorite characters: I love Eugenie so much, she is a great character. Her strength, wit, sassiness and overall demeanor make her one of my favorite fictional heroines of all time. I also love Dorian because well...he's Dorian. I won't give away much but that man is one hot, fairy King.

My Rating: 5/5 Shells +++++

Cover Reveal: Royally Endowed by Emma Chase

ROYALLY ENDOWED
The Royally Series Book 3
By Emma Chase
Release Day: August 14th 2017
Displaying Royally Endowed AMAZON.jpg

Logan St. James is a smoldering, sexy beast. Sure, he can be a little broody at times—but Ellie Hammond’s willing to overlook that. Because, have you seen him??

Sexy. As. Hell.

And Ellie’s perky enough for both of them.

For years, she’s had a crush on the intense, protective royal security guard—but she doesn’t think he ever saw her, not really.

To Logan, Ellie was just part of the job—a relative of the royal family he’d sworn to protect. Now, at 22 years old and fresh out of college, she’s determined to put aside her X-rated dreams of pat-downs and pillow talk, and find a real life happily ever after.

The Queen of Wessco encourages Ellie to follow in her sister’s footsteps and settle down with a prince of her own. Or a duke, a marquis…a viscount would also do nicely.

But in the pursuit of a fairy tale ending, Ellie learns that the sweetest crushes can be the hardest to let go.
***
Logan St. James grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, in a family on the wrong side of the law. But these days, he covers his tattoos and scars with a respectable suit. He’s handsome, loyal, brave, skilled with his hands and…other body parts.

Any woman would be proud to bring him home to her family.

But there’s only one woman he wants.

For years he’s watched over her, protected her, held her hair back when she was sick, taught her how to throw a punch, and spot a liar.

He dreams of her. Would lay down his life for her.

But beautiful Ellie Hammond’s off-limits.

Everybody knows the bodyguard rules: Never lose focus, never let them out of your sight, and never, ever fall in love.

Blog Tour & Review: How You Get The Girl by Jessica Florence

How You Get the Girl by Jessica Florence
Release Date: April 24th, 2017

Displaying SBPRBanner-HowYouGetTheGirl-BT.jpg

The Cover: When I think of Hollywood Movie Star, I think of this cover. It's exactly what I pictured and I love the come hither look the model has it's perfect.

Basics: How You Get The Girl was released on April 24 2017 and is 268 pages long.

Description:  As Hollywood’s hottest actor, getting a woman in my bed is never a challenge.

Then I spotted her at a bar—she wanted a man for the night, and I jumped at the chance to fill the role. I gave her Joel Kline’s best, and she smacked my pretty face.

But don’t worry, that’s not the end of our story. Her brand of crazy inspired me, and I had to see her again, no matter the cost.

Now, Alessandra Rose is my lead makeup artist for the next four months.

Literally, her job is to touch me every day for the duration of filming. Sounds like a win, right?

Nope, she stops me at every hint of a flirt. I’m in uncharted waters for once.

Joel Kline’s famous techniques to get the girl are failing me. It’s no longer about those sexy Brazilian lips, or her fiery spirit that gives me a hard-on.

It’s about making her banana pancakes after she spends the night in my home.

It’s about knocking down those walls around her, claiming her as mine.

She’s going to fight me, of course, unwilling to accept that it’s not all an act.

But I’m not going anywhere; that’s how you get the girl.

Overall thoughts: I really loved How You Get The Girl! I thought it was a cute, romantic story. I especially loved how Joel chased Alessandra  and how they came to be a couple, it was different reading about a male character chasing the girl and I really loved it. Joel and Alessandra are laugh out loud funny and their dynamic is something that I feel every reader can relate to in one way or another. I think it's hard to sometimes relate to a female character when it comes to romance and  Alessandra as a single hardworking mother was a great way to connect with readers. Sometimes character have over the top lives and occupations and it's hard to connect with them so I really enjoyed Alessandra. I have two small issues with ow You Get The Girl: one, I wish it was longer and two I wish the scenes between Joel and Alessandra were longer too. Other than that How You Get The Girl is Amorette's Reviews approved and will happily be part of my bookshelf forever!
