Mr. President by Katy Evans Review

I had the honor of receiving an ARC of Mr. President by Katy Evans! (ARC= Advanced Reader's Copy for you non bloggers out there!)  I want to start off this review by saying I am a huge fan of Katy and her wonderful series. I started reading her Real series in May 2013 and I have been hooked ever since. So I am completely over the moon and beyond thankful to be chosen to review one of her books early. (Thank you again to Katy and to Nina at Socialbutterfly!) I can't wait to share my thoughts with you! Trust me guys, you are going to want to get a hold of this one!
Mr. President by [Evans, Katy]
Basics: Mr. President will be released on October 31st, Happy Halloween! Mr. President is 280 pages long and is published by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform.

Description: He's won the hearts of millions. But is he willing to lose his?
I met the president’s son when we were both young. Matthew Hamilton was handsome, polished, and intelligent. I’d never met a guy like him. He promised me that he’d never run for president. I promised that if he did, I’d be by his side. Two terms later, an invitation to join Matthew Hamilton’s campaign is the most exhilarating opportunity I’ve ever experienced. I'm determined to make a difference; he is determined to win.

Focused on his goal, Matt is steadfast, ruthless, and disarming. All eyes are on him and his popularity is surging. But soon, the next possible president of the United States is possessing me in more ways than one—and despite the risks, I'm helpless to resist. We're stealing touches, stealing moments, and stealing away at night. But our chemical connection is quickly becoming dangerously combustive, putting not only my heart, but Matt's chance at the presidency on the line.

Winning will take everything.
Walking away will be the hardest thing of all.
Plot: Charlotte Wells is a twenty two year old working and living in Washington DC who has no desire to get involved in politics. much to her parents disappointment. Matt Hamilton is American family Royalty; his father was the President of the United States and before he was horrifically murdered, his father told everyone that Matt would someday take his place. Years later Matt announces he's running for President and the entire country explodes with excitement and shock. Charlotte is overjoyed at Matt's announcement; the two met two decades prior where a young Charlotte promised she would support his campaign if he would ever run for election and Matt has called on to collect that promise.

Charlotte soon finds herself supporting Mr. Hamilton's campaign, each meeting and workday the two become closer and can't fight the attraction burning between them. However Charlotte wants Matt to win the election even if costs them their promising relationship. Matt wants to become President but he also wants Charlotte by his side. Can Matt Hamilton win the election and be with Charlotte without causing a nationwide scandal?

Favorite Quotes:  Focus Charlotte! Nope. Not on his ass. -Charlotte

I'm playing with fire and I don't care. -Matt

She's in my veins, this girl. -Matt
(Some small spoilers ahead)
Overall thoughts: Evans wrote an absolutely perfect, romantic book and her timing couldn't be more ideal. Everyone's mind seems to be on the 2016 election and whoever you are voting for, you have to  agree how crazy the 2016 election has been so far. Some people are going crazy over whose running and others want to move to Canada. Mr. President is a perfect escape for anyone who either needs a break from the election or loves Kennedy family centric history. Charlotte and Matt's chemistry is endearing and  magnetic. It's not just a romance story about two people who see each other and want one another, then fall in love. Charlotte and Matt knew each other as kids and remembered each other as they grew up which I personally find so swoon worthy. Two people who haven't seen each other in years and they find their way back to one another and fall in love? Count me in!

I also love how Evans added that touch of forbidden romance into Charlotte and Matt's relationship with different aspects. Charlotte just turned two twenty and Matt is thirty five, a thirteen age difference. Most people I don't think would care about this; some would maybe raise their eyebrows but for a man who is running for President and dating a woman who is thirteen years younger than he is? It's been decades and decades since we've had a candidate run for the Presidency without a spouse, so of course people are going to question why Matt Hamilton isn't married. (At least in Evans world they are.) So when Charlotte joins Matt's campaign team and they start to secretly fall for one another, it could be turned into a scandal considering all the sneaking around they have to do.

Having Matt run as a third party candidate was also something I enjoyed. It was a nice twist and I appreciated the fresh take on a different type of nominee considering we usually only hear about the Democrat or Republican candidate.

I adored Mr. President very much and I was actually pretty shocked to learn that Mr. President would be turning into a series! Pleasantly shocked. I thought Mr. President would be a standalone but Katy Evans continues to surprise me. Mr. President left me with several questions so I can't wait for the next installment of the White House series, Commander in Chief!

My rating: 5/5 shells

October Owlcrate Review!

Owlcrate is a monthly box subscription that is based around the box's theme of the month. The themes usually focus on a Young Adult series and have items that go with that series. For example, in  July 2016 Owlcrate had a theme of Good vs Evil box; if you got an evil box you were given a Draco Malfoy POP figure by Funko or if you got the Good box you were given a Luna Lovegood POP figure by Funko. A typical Owlcrate box includes a box based on the month's theme along with 3-5 book/nerdy/fun items that tie in with the book in the Owlcrate and theme.

The cost of an Owlcrate is $29.99 a month plus shipping and the box usually ships around the 20th of each month. Another great part of the Owlcrate is that you can buy it as a gift for someone! It's a perfect birthday, Christmas or anniversary gift for any book lover!

The theme of October's Owlcrate: Once Upon A Dream. I let out a happy little screech when I first out the theme of the October box because I love Sleeping Beauty and Once Upon A Dream is my favorite Disney song so I was very, very excited! This month's box did NOT disappoint!
There are SO MANY fun and cute goodies with this month's box! I was a bit disappointed with the September Owlcrate because the items that came with that box are disposable and won't last. I did not have that problem with the Once Upon A Dream box at all!

The first item I want to discuss is the adorable, handmade bookmark from My Heart, My Tribe.  It's so simple and cute! The perfect size for any book and I'm excited to use it!
The next item is a passport notebook based on the Wizard and Oz by The Unemployed Philosopher's Guide. It's the perfect size to put it any purse or backpack and the attention to detail is adorable. On the inside the notebook looks an actual passport and at the bottom right corner of each page has a picture of the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Cowardly Lion. So cute!
My favorite item of this month's Owlcrate is the bracelet from the Geeky Cauldron. The charms are so cute and they match the theme of the box perfectly. I can't wait to wear this around! So adorable.
The next item is something you can wear which is perfect considering the weather is getting colder. It's a Peter Pan beanie from Whosits & Whatsits! It's really comfy and keeps your head nice and warm! Can I be a Lost Boy now and go to Neverland?!

Other items include an Owlcrate button and a bookmark featuring
the New World series by Jennifer Wilson!

The book that came with the Once Upon A Dream Owlcrate is Vassa the Night by Sarah Porter! It's based off Russian Folklore and is somewhat dreamlike. I love the author sent a little tattoo with her note! Very thoughtful and cute! I'll post for the review for Vassa the Night in the next week or so!

Overall thoughts: I am very happy with October's Owlcrate! I love the theme and all the items that came with it are fun and fit well with the theme. I'm really excited to read Vassa the Night and I think it was a great box. I know lots of people were confused because many thought it would be a Halloween theme for this month but I think Owlcrate did a great job.
My rating:  5/5

Twisted Palace by Erin Watt Review!

Holy cow guys! We have finally reached the conclusion of the The Royals series! I stumbled upon this series over the summer and I have been hooked ever since! The characters, the story, the twists and turns within the plot have been such a ride to read through and I am very thankful that I found this series. Erin Watt, the dynamic duo of two best selling authors have stolen my heart and have virtually royally ruined my soul in every possible way. Which is a good thing! On to the review!

The Cover: Erin Watt''s covers are simple and beautiful. I first came upon the Royal series through my kindle and when I was in the Amazon store my eyes went directly to the cover of Paper Princess. Usually there's some character on the cover of a book, but with this series all the covers focus on an object that relates to the story. I love all the covers, but Paper Princess and Twisted Palace are my favorites. The covers are unique to me because the drawings of both of the crowns and gates to me look like watercolor. Paper Princess is very proper, Broken Prince is more sketchy and less proper, looking a bit shattered and Twisted Palace looks beautiful, pristine and flawless. Which is a bit ironic because the book is named Twisted Palace, why do the gates look perfect when the title suggests not everything is perfect? Ah I love, love, love it! I love the books and covers so much that when Twisted Palace becomes available November 2nd, I'm buying all the books. I already bought them on kindle but the covers are too beautiful not to own in book form!

Basics: Twisted Palace was released on October 17th, 2016 and is the third installment of the the Royal series. The book is available on kindle for now, but will be released in book form on November 2nd, 2016. Twisted Palace is 370 pages long and was published by EverAfter Romance.

Description: These Royals will ruin you

From mortal enemies to unexpected allies, two teenagers try to protect everything that matters most.
Ella Harper has met every challenge that life has thrown her way. She’s tough, resilient, and willing to do whatever it takes to defend the people she loves, but the challenge of a long-lost father and a boyfriend whose life is on the line might be too much for even Ella to overcome.

Reed Royal has a quick temper and even faster fists. But his tendency to meet every obstacle with violence has finally caught up with him. If he wants to save himself and the girl he loves, he’ll need to rise above his tortured past and tarnished reputation.

No one believes Ella can survive the Royals. Everyone is sure Reed will destroy them all.

They may be right.

With everything and everyone conspiring to keep them apart, Ella and Reed must find a way to beat the law, save their families, and unravel all the secrets in their Twisted Palace.

***** If you have not read Broken Prince
or Twisted Palace, please stop here****

Plot: When Broken Prince ended, Brooke and her unborn baby were killed and Reed got arrested for apparently murdering her. After Reed was taken away...Steve, Ella's dad who was apparently killed in a hanging glider accident appears in front of her and Callum. SAY WHAT?! So many questions!

Twisted Palace directly starts off where Broken Prince ended with Reed being questioned in police custody. Ella is back at the house trying to deal with Reed's arrest and her sudden father's appearance  back from the dead. What makes the situation even more awkward is that Steve doesn't remember Ella or even being told he was a dad. Seriously Steve? That's strike one for you buddy. The first part of the book is focused on Reed and how he is basically the one the police are pinning for Brooke's murder. They have video footage of him leaving the Penthouse (where Steve and his wife were living, also where Brooke was staying at the time) and they have a hard on him for him to be convicted of murder. Things only get worse when the witness statements of Reed's violent behavior and actions are turned in, dozens and dozens of people go against Reed. Mainly people he beat up because they bad mouthed his deceased mother (who wouldn't defend their mama?!) and others who have their own personal issues with him. (Ex girlfriends, people who don't like the Royals or especially Ella) Basically Reed's situation is looking grim, along having his DNA under Brooke's fingernails (she apparently scratched him) and everyone knowing he had an affair with his dad's fiance, AKA Brooke. Things are looking pretty damning for Reed, as in going to jail for five to twenty five years damning.

Meanwhile, Ella is dealing with a father she never knew or really wanted. She doesn't know him and has constant anxiety when Steve hangs around. Poor girl is also dealing with the fact that her boyfriend and love of her life may be going to jail. Needless to say Ella is STRESSED. Things become more taxing when Steve rips Ella away from the Royal's home, away from the family she's come to know and care about along with being apart from Reed. Steve also objects when he finds out that Reed and Ella are together and goes on to become a super strict annoying dad. He gets Ella fired from the job she loves, makes her deal with his wife Dinah (who was awful to Ella in the first two books) and goes on to try and Ella. Which isn't a good thing because all of her life Ella has been on her own and independent, she doesn't exactly enjoy the fact that her absent father for most of her life comes out of nowhere and tries to take over.

While all of that is going on, Reed and Ella are trying to figure out who really killed Brooke and conserve their relationship.  Twisted Palace keeps you constantly guessing from the first page to the very end, is everyone who they say they are? And the Royals are already known to have their issues and secrets, but can it get worse? The Royals may be known to ruin themselves and people they care about but are the Royals truly ruining themselves or is there something more to the story that we don't know about? Buy Twisted Palace and find out!

*****MORE SPOILERS AHEAD, if you don't want to know, don't continue reading*******

Overall thoughts: I have so many things to say so I'll do it in bullet form.
  • Callum was the father of the baby?! I was so thankful it wasn't Reed, but that seriously is so sad. I didn't like Brooke, but not only she was murdered, the unborn baby was too. So sad.
  • Jordan drove me nuts throughout this series, but she kind of redeemed herself in Twisted Palace; yes she is still mean but there was different side of her that was shown that I liked
  • WHO IS EASTON'S MYSTERY GIRL?!
  • My vote is on: Savannah, new girl Hailey or Jordan.
  • I loved the mini storyline between Val and Wade, seeing both of them struggle with their feelings for one another was adorable. I hope and pray they get their own novella.
  • DINAH. Who would've thought it?! She was absolutely horrid in this series! She was a gold digger, vain, only seemed to care about herself and Brooke, she blackmailed Gideon and  threatened him and Savannah with horrible things. But...man! At the end she really came out of nowhere and changed my entire thought process on her.
  • I loved the closeness of Dinah and Ella. Yes she did horrible things, but she seemed to change a little bit at the end of Twisted Palace. I wish more of that was shown from Ella's POV.
  • The whole dynamic between Callum and Steve as father figures. Callum stood up to his best friend about being a father, I loved how he said he was more of a father to her than he was.
  • Steve...I am so disappointed!!! I would be pretty upset if someone tried to kill me too but returning home and going after the first blonde you see? Really?
  • Again with Steve, he was annoying throughout the entire book. He was all over the place with Ella, couldn't focus on anything and when he did try to be a father...he was completely controlling. No bueno.
  • Steve part III. SLEEPING WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND'S WIFE?! REALLY. Then making her believe that Callum was cheating on her and not trying to stop her from killing herself? There are no words.
  • When the affair came out, my immediate thought was...are any of the boys Steve's? The thought really depresses me but you have to wonder if it's true.
  • If any of the boys are Steve's my pick would be Easton or the twins.
  • Speaking of boys, I know a lot of people want everyone to have their own novella or book, but I can't stand Gideon. I understand he was being blackmailed, sleeping with someone he hated and missing the girl he truly cared about, but he was a complete jerk to Ella the entire series. The one time I thought was actually being decent, was when the brothers hatched a plan to beat up Daniel. And that was it. Safe to say I am not on Team Gideon.
  • Ella and Reed's relationship = swoon. So much character development!!
  • Ella has her own trust and constant the need to run  when things get bad issues and Reed has his own father problems, angry and closed off emotion issues.
  • But they both fit together; they've seen each other at their worst, they've fell in love, they fought, they found out each other's secrets in both Paper Princess and Broken Prince. And they worked things out and came together to overcome all of those issues. I love and can relate to the feelings they have for both of their mothers and it just touched my heart how they bonded over that fact.
  • I am so sad that Ella and Reed's story is over. They will forever be one of my favorite relationships.
Favorite characters: Wade and Val, seriously I need to see more of their relationship. Plus, I want to know more about Val. Hailey was a nice surprise too, I love Val but it was nice to see Ella finding another girlfriend. Callum! I had a love hate relationship with Callum during this series, one second he was trying to be a good father to the boys and Ella and the next he wasn't. But he really proved himself to me in Twisted Palace, I secretly hope Callum will get his own book or novella too!

Bad character awards: Gideon, he was just such a jerk throughout the series and I don't know if it was because of his situation or the fact that he wasn't around much. Maybe I would change my mind if he gets his own book or novella and I can try and understand him from his point of view? Maybe.  And Steve I don't need to explain why he got a bad character award, do I? But yeah, worst father and person ever.

Favorite Quotes: "Why does everyone feel the need to make promises? Don't they know that promises always get broken?" Ella, chapter four.

"She got under my skin the moment I met her, and she's still there in my blood and in my heart." Reed, chapter seventeen.

"How dare you Carrington, I'm a modern day Romeo! Romeo dies." Val and Wade, chapter twenty one.

"If Steve asks I respected the hell out of his daughter, three times." Reed, chapter twenty two.

"You. Us. Forever." Reed, chapter thirty two.

"Behind us is the tormented and terrible past. In front of us is our unblemished future. I'm not looking back again." Reed, chapter thirty five.

Final thoughts: I love this series so much and I am so thankful to the dynamic duo of Erin Watt for creating it. They will have me as a reader for life and I look forward to the next installment of the Royal series!
My rating: 5/5 shells

Dirty by Kylie Scott Review

I am currently in the path of Hurricane Matthew and since it hasn't hit yet I thought it would be the perfect time to get some reading done and write up some reviews! The first book I chose to read for Hurricane Matthew was Dirty by Kylie Scott. I am a big, big fan of Kylie Scott, I fell in love with both her Stage Dive series and her Flesh series. So I had big expectations for her new series and first book, Dirty. The great thing about her Dive Bar series is that it's based in the same world as the Stage Dive series but with different characters and different scenarios. You can read the Dive Bar series as a standalone but I highly recommend reading the Stage Dive series as well. But without further ago, let's dive in this review!
Cover: I really find myself drawn to Scott's covers because she has a certain theme with them, usually a handsome gentleman with only half of his face showing. I really like this concept for a a book cover because the guy doesn't have a face, so it's easier for you as the reader to visualize what the guy on the cover looks like and you can make it your own! Which is especially great because when it comes to reading everyone has different ideas of what certain characters in books look like in their own heads. I also like the fact that a martini glass is also featured because it fits in with the story.  A+ for the cover.

Basics: Dirty was released on April 19th, 2016, is 289 pages long and is published by St. Martin's Griffin

Description: (from Amazon:)  Love—on the rocks….

The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that come with her.

Lydia Green doesn't know whether to scream or cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it's with his best man is another thing all together. Just when this runaway bride has nowhere left to turn, a handsome stranger offers her a broad, muscular shoulder to cry on. Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessmen she's normally drawn to. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and is facing his own crossroads. But Lydia's already tried Mr. Right and discovered he's all wrong--maybe it's time to give Mr. Right Now a chance. After all, what's wrong with getting dirty?

Dirty is the first book in the Dive Bar series from bestselling author Kylie Scott.

Plot: Meet Lydia Green, a sassy realtor who is about to get married to the man of her dreams and live happily ever after. Until she gets a random text with a video of her fiance making out with his best man right before she walks down the aisle. Awkward right? So what does a reasonable woman do? She makes a break for it of course! As in, climbing over a fence in a wedding gown running badassery kind of making a break for it. (I fell in love with Lydia as soon as I read the first word in the chapter honestly. Scott has a gift for making readers fall in love with her characters right away.)

Lydia needs to hide and lay low for awhile; so she breaks into a nearby cottage bungalow through the window, again in a wedding gown (The badassery of Scott's heroines knows no bounds!) and hides in the bathroom in the most sensible place, the tub. Enter Vaughn Hewson, owner of said cute bungalow and ex guitarist of a broken up band. Although he seems to be a bit angry and confused as to why there's a woman in a wedding dress in his house AND his bathtub, the two hit it off right away.

Lydia's life is a bit in the unknown at the moment because not only was she marrying someone she thought loved her, she also worked with her fiance's family. It's safe to say that she has no job, nowhere to stay and no support from parents so she's in a bit of a pickle. Vaughn's band, everything he's ever known since high school has disbanded and he's returned to his hometown where he hasn't visited or spoken to his sister and friends for several years. Add in money issues and some sad memories to that mix and Vaughn isn't in the best of places either.

Amid the craziness in their lives, Vaughn lets Lydia stay with him until she sorts things out with her future and the two start to bond. Things even get more interesting when Lydia gets tangled into helping out with Vaughn's sister's bar. Meeting his childhood friends only drags her further into Vaughn's world and puts them closer together. They may of just met but the feelings between them only grow as each day passes. Vaughn is intent on going back to Los Angeles and starting over in the music industry; Lydia is settling into his hometown, both career and friend wise, something she's always wanted. Will Vaughn's attraction and interest in Lydia be enough for him to stay? If you want to find out, pick up a copy of this amazing book!

Favorite Characters: This was hard because of course I loved both Lydia and Vaughn, but there were some other great characters too! My favorite character that wasn't the main focus of Dirty was Vaughn's sister, Nell. I was drawn to her because one, I love her name. I am a complete sucker for unique names! I also love the fact that she has red hair, there aren't many red hair women in the romance book world, it's a travesty I tell you! Nell is also admirable; she owns the Dive Bar where  owns and runs part of it, but she also is a cook for the place. Can you say triple threat?! I'm hoping that Nell will be in one of the other upcoming books in the Dive Bar series because she is seriously one heck of an interesting character. Plus her situation is quite interesting too, drama, drama, drama!

Favorite Quotes: "I looked down. Yes, something was definitely hardening in the front of his pants. Huh. We hadn't even used tongue. And they said romance was dead."

"I can't say I know exactly what it feels like to be nailed to a door. But the way Vaughn did it made for one hell of an experience."

"Trust me, never mock a romance book, You have no idea the amount of good they can do for you between the sheets and on the streets. If you love your girl? Buy her books."

Overall thoughts: I really enjoyed this book! Kylie Scott just has this way of drawing you in with her humor and also using certain relatable issues to tug on your heartstrings. In every book I have read of Scott's, I find myself empathetic to at least one or more of her characters. When you can see yourself going through the same issue a character is going through in a book, you feel yourself fusing to the story and characters so much. There's nothing better than falling in love with a book, one that you can especially relate to. The connection between Vaughn and Lydia was very refreshing; the way they met was funny and I really enjoyed how both of them were in difficult situations but leaned on each other to get through those difficult situations, The plot was really well done too; I think it's very hard to keep readers interesting when it comes a nonfiction romance and Scott did a really fantastic job of keeping me intrigued. Everyone comes from somewhere, whether growing up in a small town or big city, there's that feeling of home and being surrounded by the ones you love. In most cases when people think about going home that means seeing family and old friends, a theme that plays a big party in Dirty. Both good and drama filled, but that's what makes it interesting right? I think my only complaint of this book would be the length, I loved it so much that I wish it was just a little bit longer! But don't we all feel that way when we really enjoy a book? I'm looking forward to learning more about the crew of Coeur d'Alene and seeing how each of their stories pans out.  Bring on more of the Dive Bar series!
My rating: 5/5 shells!

Most Anticipated Releases

I don't know about you but I am ALL about book countdowns! In fact I have a countdown app on my phone just for book countdowns. Seems kind of silly, but when I have a bad day it's nice to look at my countdown and know that a new book release is on it's way!

I have three releases that I am OVER the moon excited for! One in particular because the last book in the series left on a completely crazy cliffhanger. Oh my goodness does the dynamic duo of Erin Watt know how to write! So without further ado , the first release I am looking forward to this month: Twisted Palace, the third book of the Paper Princess series.
Paper Princess is a series that follows a young teenager named Ella who doesn't have any family but is strong willed and determined to let nothing in life keep her down. Her entire world changes however when a random stranger comes out of nowhere and tells her that he's her guardian. From there she enters the world of the privileged and rich and has to not only survive a stuck up prep school but also the new family she's been brought into. She doesn't expect to feel happy or to fall in love. I love the Paper Princess series because it's funny, relatable and the twists and turns in this series is ridiculous, but in a good way! Paper Princess is followed by Broken Prince and the third book in the series is Twisted Palace out on October 17th!
Are you ready to be ruined? Jump into the world of the Royals.

The next book release that I am looking forward to is from one of my favorite author's, Mr. President by Katy Evans. She recently just announced this book and it comes out November 5th! The book looks to like it's going to be almost like a Kennedy romance which is perfect considering it's an election year and it's almost voting season! Below is a blurb from Katy herself:
Blurb: He's won the hearts of millions. But is he willing to lose his?

I met the president’s son when we were both young. Matthew Hamilton was handsome, polished, and intelligent. I’d never met a guy like him. He promised me that he’d never run for president. I promised that if he did, I’d be by his side.

Three terms later, an invitation to join Matthew Hamilton’s campaign is the most exhilarating opportunity I’ve ever experienced.

That's it for my most anticipated releases for October & early November, what book releases are you looking forward to?

Till next time~ :)
